— Why Mainspring
Considered at every step
Planned, not reactive
We schedule work around your collection's needs, not around availability gaps. Organised upkeep rather than crisis response.
Reversible methods
Nothing we do closes off future options. Every approach is chosen with the long-term character of the piece in mind.
Documented records
Each watch receives written notes on condition, work completed and any observations — useful for collectors and future reference alike.
Hand-operated work
No shortcuts to speed. Craft techniques applied by hand, where the touch of the tool matters as much as the tool itself.
Plain communication
We explain what we find, what we propose and what it costs before any work begins. No surprises on the bench or the invoice.
Local, accessible
A workshop in central Chiang Mai — easy to visit, easy to reach, and staffed by people who will remember your pieces by name.

— Common Questions
Frequently asked
What happens when I bring a watch in?
We start with a brief assessment — looking at the movement condition, case wear and any specific concerns you have. We then explain what we see and what work, if any, is worth considering. You receive a written summary before anything begins.
How long does a typical service take?
It depends on the service. A Collection Care Plan check-in is usually completed within a week. Vintage Restoration work, where careful attention to original materials is needed, often runs two to four weeks. Case refinishing typically takes one to two weeks. We'll give a realistic timeframe at the start.
Do you work on all watch brands?
We work on a wide range of mechanical and automatic timepieces across most heritage and contemporary brands. Highly specialised proprietary movements may require referral to a brand service centre — we'll be straightforward with you if that's the case.
Is the pricing fixed or does it change?
The listed prices reflect standard scope for each service. If a piece turns out to need additional attention — for example, a movement part that requires sourcing — we discuss that with you separately before proceeding. Nothing is added without your agreement.
Can I request work on a sentimental piece I'm not sure about?
Absolutely. Many of the watches we see carry personal histories. We approach inherited and collected pieces with particular care, and we're very comfortable talking through options without any expectation that work will follow from the conversation.
