How every service begins
Every service at Mainspring follows the same sequence, regardless of which service you've enquired about. The piece comes in, we look at it carefully, we tell you what we see and what we propose in plain language — then you decide. Nothing begins without your agreement.
We work on one piece, or a small set of pieces from one owner, at a time. This keeps attention where it should be and makes it possible for us to maintain proper records throughout. We don't process work in batches.
Timelines are realistic. We don't hurry work to clear a queue — we clear the queue by not overfilling it. If we're occupied, we'll tell you and arrange a time that works.

Collection Care Plan

A scheduled rotation that keeps several watches wound, checked and lightly serviced across the year. Designed for owners of small collections who prefer steady, planned upkeep over reactive repair.
The plan covers up to four pieces and is structured as an annual programme, with visits scheduled at intervals that suit the wear pattern of each watch. You don't need to track service intervals yourself — we do.

Vintage Restoration

Gentle, reversible work on older timepieces, including dial care and sympathetic case refinishing that respects original character. Ideal for inherited or collected pieces where preservation matters more than modernisation.
The defining principle of this service is restraint. We do as much as the piece needs to function or look considered again — and no more. Original patina, original surface texture and original finish zones are treated as something to preserve, not correct.

Case Polishing & Refinishing

Careful removal of light scratches with brushed or polished finishes matched to the original surface. Cosmetic care for owners who want a tidy look without altering the case shape or losing the definition of original finish zones.
This is among the most technically demanding surface crafts in the field, because the goal is not a uniform shine — it is a faithful recreation of how the case was originally finished, applied by hand to each surface zone. Edges are kept sharp. Mixed-finish cases are handled zone by zone.

Workshop standards
Secure in-workshop storage
Every piece left with us is individually labelled and stored in a locked space when not on the bench. We don't leave watches unattended on open surfaces.
Hand-operated throughout
No service is subcontracted or machine-processed without discussion. The watchmaker's hands are directly on the work from start to finish.
Written documentation
Condition notes, work completed and any observations are recorded in writing and given to the owner. Workshop records are kept for reference on future visits.
Owner contacted before surprises
If the scope of work changes — or something unexpected is found — we stop and contact you. Additional costs are agreed before they are incurred.
Reversibility as a principle
Every technique used can be revisited or adjusted by a future watchmaker. We don't apply permanent solutions that close off later options.
Honest timelines
We give realistic turnaround times and stick to them. If delays arise, you hear from us before the promised date passes.
